INVITED TALK:
From Fundamental Research to Product: Case Study with LLMs
Fundamental research in NLP presents a great diversity of more or less mature fields: some of them have direct applications to current services and products, others explore new products or services, and finally those that seek to advance in some of the great fundamental challenges, theoretical or applied to the real world. Google has research projects in all of these areas. In the academic world, the practical application of fundamental research has several development paths, which can more or less approximate to real-world applications, but, unless there is direct collaboration with industry, the level of maturity of the technology is often a long way from a product with real application. One of the research cases that are currently raising the greatest interest in the world of Conversational Intelligence are systems based on Large Language Models (LLMs, Large Language Models).
