HiTZ: Basque Center for Language Technology
HiTZ
is a center of reference for Language Technologies. Its aim is to promote research, training, technological transfer, and innovation in Artificial Intelligence focused on language and speech. We are a multidisciplinary team composed of members with backgrounds in computer science, linguistics, and engineering. HiTZ is made up of Ixa and Aholab, two research groups at the University of the Basque Country (EHU). Since their creation in 1988 and 1995, respectively, Ixa and Aholab have represented the principal driving forces behind Language Technologies in the Basque Country. HiTZ has strong links with the Chair of AI and Language Technologies (supported by SEDIA under ENIA) and holds two National Research Awards in Computer Science. The center is also home to a full member of Jakiunde (the Basque Academy of Sciences Humanities and Arts), one of the Association for Computational Linguisticsโs fifteen European fellows, as well as the winner of the award for the best thesis in Artificial Intelligence in Europe (EurAI 2020).
